What she says: I'm fine

What she means: The point of Carol (2015) dir. Todd Haynes is the love story... the movie is about their relationship. And yet it's far more about the love than it is about them being queer or struggling to accept that they love a woman. AND YET it doesn't ignore that they would face particular challenges in their time and place. AND YET those challenges don't lead to tragedy and devastation; they're merely obstacles. It's such a fine line and I can't recall any other major movie that's done it. What a time to be alive.

person: How are you?

"We’re all going to die, all of us, what a circus. That alone should make us love each other, but it doesn’t. We are terrorized and flattened by trivialities, we are eaten up by nothing."
